Madison’s independent bookstore
scene underwent a change in the summer of 2012 when two locally owned
and operated bookstores, A Room of One’s Own and Avol’s Bookstore,
consolidated their businesses into a single location. What makes
this merger significant is the fact that Room sells new books,
while Avol’s specializes in used and out-of-print
titles. The new store is a one-stop, full-service bookstore designed
to meet the demands of Madison’s book buyers with a great collection
of both new and used books. A Room of One’s Own is now
located in the space formerly occupied by Avol’s, at 315C W.
Gorham, off State Street, in Madison, Wisconsin. Ron Czerwien, owner of Avol’s, is the
used-book buyer for the new store, and continues to sell books
online under the Avol’s name.
